Bairro Luz School

Public school located in Bairro Luz, city of Sao Paulo. With 24 classrooms and a covered sport's court, the main building is located in the length of the lot creating an internal entrance square for the students. The outdoor sports court is located on top of an existing building which façades were preserved. These façades are covered by an aluminum expanded metal sheet that works both as a “brise-soleil” and as an aesthetic element.

The project was conceived as a building void, with its length limited by the glazes of 2 volumes that open to the outside. Each volume has 2 floors and houses the classrooms while the central void, with double height, becomes the internal courtyard and a covered sports court. A bridge becomes the connections between the 2 volumes and the elevated floor.

Public school inserted in topography with large gap between levels. A bridge connects the street to the administration room, located in the first floor. This connection becomes an internal corridor, then a balcony and ends up as the stand of the sports court. Slopes and stairs become the vertical circulation, and a tilted square connects the lower road to the covered courtyard, located on the ground floor of the building.

The first nursery school projected to attend the children of the employees.

Composed by several volumes with different programs, the project offers free space in between as an extension to outdoor activities. The roofs from the classrooms are in glazed lanterns and allude to industrial neighborhood of Bairro Belezinho, where the project is located.
